How to succeed writing and selling PLR

Private Label Rights (PLR) content is “white label” content. Many successful writers write PLR as a sideline to their writing business, and some even turn it into a full time business.

Forms of PLR content you can write include articles, ebooks, reports, tutorials, graphics, software, videos… the list is endless. With PLR, you’re basically creating a product which others can put their names on, and call their own.

I asked Lynn, who’s a magazine writer turned successful PLR producer, for some tips in both writing and selling PLR.

Lynn’s tips for writing PLR

Start small. Get a couple of clients who buy a lot of content from you. I started in the health niche, writing PLR content about arthritis, and then later about pregnancy, because this is what my clients wanted.

I can research and write fast, so that’s a primary requirement - work out how much you can produce each day, and produce it. Once you’ve got the material, you can sell it. At one stage I was writing 15 articles a day, every day.

One mistake I see many writers making when they try PLR is that they try to sell the content first - this is a mistake. Produce as much as you can, so you’ve got a lot to sell. Once you get clients, they’ll take everything you can write.

Remember that you sell PLR in packages, so everything you write is inventory. Some of your clients will want you to customize the PLR for their needs - post it on their blogs, or, create a site with customized PLR, or customize articles into an ebook. This is a great way to make an added income from your PLR clients.

Lynn’s tips for selling PLR

I didn’t get paid much for those initial health PLR articles and ebooks, because I was finding my way - selling the initial output at a low price gave me confidence, and testimonials, as well as contacts.

My idea was that I’d sell the health PLR myself, but I got a big client who’s selling lots of health PLR, and he bought everything I had for a lump sum, which was great.

Currently I’m working with another large PLR provider, researching, writing and editing the work of other writers.

There’s a huge hunger for PLR content on the Web.

For new writers, I recommend working with a large company so you can get an overview of how it works. This gives you contacts, and of course experience in writing to order, while someone else does the selling.

For experienced writers, the sky’s the limit - you can sell all the PLR you create. Estimate that it will take you around three to six months of promotion to get your PLR business off the ground.

So there you have advice on PLR from someone who’s part of the PLR industry. PLR is a great way for writers to make an income writing on the Web.

By the way, we cover writing and selling PLR in SEll Your Writing Online (SYWON).

The basic idea of PLR content is that it’s content which is sold to people to edit, mash up, or use directly on their Web sites. PLR content may be articles, ebooks, reports, or even audio. It’s CONTENT - stuff for Web sites - in its generic form.

If you can write ten PLR articles in a week, you can make $4000 a week

Sounds weird, but it’s true. Many writers are already cashing in on PLR, and you can too.

Kids’ writing: Cricket, Spider and Ladybug Magazines launch sites

Are you writing for children?

Here’s some great news.

Cricket, Spider and Ladybug Magazines Launch New Web Sites for Kids reports:

“Award-winning children’s magazines Cricket, Ladybug, and Spider launched three new child-focused Web sites in June, bringing the iconic children’s magazines online with a wealth of original content and new interactive features developed to create an entertaining, yet safe and family-friendly space for young readers on the Web.

Recipients of 2008 Parents’ Choice awards for excellence in children’s publishing, Cricket, Ladybug, and Spider magazines have been loved by children and their parents for decades for the quality of the writing and art included, as well as the many opportunities for budding young writers to submit their own work. The three new Web sites — Cricketmagkids.com, Ladybugmagkids.com, and Spidermagkids.com — aim to continue enriching the lives of a new generation of readers by taking the founding principle that ‘Only the best of the best is good enough for the young,’ into the digital world.”

How can you use this information?

In two ways:

1. Since the sites are offering original content, you know they need writers;

2. Why not create your own kids’ magazine on the Web, using an easy publishing tool like WordPress?
