Many writers fight shy of blogging. You’re writing, writing and writing some more. Who has time to blog, as well? You do! Your blog helps you to stand out as a writer, and build a readership.
The world of Web editors is crowded, but Squarespace stands out. Not only can you create a website, including an online store, very simply with Squarespace, you can also blog. And blogging on Squarespace is simple too.
You may know that I’m a big fan of WordPress as a blogging platform. I started using it many years ago, when when it was first released. I’ll always love it. Nevertheless, I’m keen to try out new blogging platforms.
Blogging on Squarespace is simple, but powerful. You can add meta data, just as you would in any other blogging platform.
Squarespace: a surprisingly good blogging tool
I recently moved my writing classes website to Squarespace, and used its blog page option to set up a News section of the site. Within minutes, I’d created my first post, and I was completely charmed by the simplicity.
In Squarespace, there’s no Preview mode. You’re editing almost live, and you can add anything onto a page you please, from Markdown, to images and videos, and even live links to your online store. (I say “almost live”, because you need to save the page for it to be published.)
You can even blog via email, and via a bookmarklet, as you can see in the image below.
Squarespace isn’t WordPress. It doesn’t try to be. However, it’s very powerful. For anyone who’s new to blogging, try Squarespace. Not only is it a very simple way to blog, it’s FAST.
(By the way – I have no connection to the company.)
Some benefits of Squarespace blogging
Let’s have a look at some benefits.
- No messing around with setting up a blog, and keeping it updated. Everything’s run on Squarespace’s servers, which seem speedy enough.
- No messing around with images. Just drag in an image, and Squarespace resizes it for you.
- Blog anywhere. Squarespace has a range of mobile apps.
- Integrated ecommerce; you can sell digital downloads simply.
I’m repeating “simple”, because that’s what Squarespace is, and why it’s ideal for busy writers, who’ve got enough to do, without learning a complicated program.
If you’ve decided to start a blog (or start another one) check out Squarespace.
