This week, our theme is creating fast websites. (See the end of this article, if you missed the first two articles in the series.)
Today, let’s discuss site-creation tools.
In our first article in the series, Want Passive Income? This Trick’s Faster Than Writing Ebooks | Angela Booth’s Fab Freelance Writing Blog, I said:
These days, creating a website’s a no-brainer. You can create a site on wordpress.com (but be careful here, they to be finicky about commercialization.) Alternatively, use a site creation tool like Weebly – I love Weebly… it’s fast, free and great fun to use.”
Let’s talk a little more about “finicky”.
Be careful if you’re creating a commercial website on non-commercial services
Although WordPress.com is great for creating fast websites, you need to be careful. Indeed, I wouldn’t advise that you do it.
WordPress.com takes a dim view of things like affiliate links, for example. If you love WordPress as I do, you’re much better off installing WordPress on your own domain. Self-hosted WordPress (dot ORG, rather than dot COM) is easy to install. Most hosts use Fantastico or similar, and you can install WordPress through CPanel with a couple of clicks.
Blogger.com is not as finicky as WordPress.com. Blogger encourages you to use Google AdSense, obviously because Google owns Blogger. You can create commercial sites on Blogger with a little more confidence. However, over the years, I’ve heard of Blogger.com blogs vanishing overnight. Spammers tend to target Blogger every so often. When that happens, Google turns the dials on its Blogger algorithm, and innocent sites are caught in the resulting bloodbath.
So, what should you use for peace of mind for creating FAST websites?
Use Weebly or a similar website creator
You can of course use self-hosted WordPress for your fast websites. However, because WordPress is so popular, it’s become a real target for hackers. This means not only that you need to make sure that your WordPress installations are updated whenever a new release of WordPress comes out, it also means that you need to keep a closer eye on your sites. There’s nothing more annoying that going to one of your sites and seeing it covered in porn because hackers got into it.
Creating fast websites is very easy. Once your content’s written, you’ll be able to create your website in minutes.
Have fun… 🙂
