As you know, I’ve always recommended that as soon as possible, you stop trading hours for dollars as a freelance writer, and develop your own online home business, based on writing. Essentially, this means that you create a website which will make money for you.
I’m thrilled with the attitude of the students on our new coaching program, “Make Your Website Sell”. They’re making great progress towards developing websites which will I’m sure, make money for them.
As I said in this post, the topics they’ve chosen for their sites vary.
We’ve been researching their target audience, describing precisely who that audience is, and choosing monetization options. It’s very straightforward. Once the students have created a site which sells, under guidance, they’ll have a lot of control over their options in the future.
Once you know how to create a website which sells, you have unlimited opportunities.
You don’t need to spend money to make money
At the moment, they’re not spending ANY money at all. All the tools (including Weebly, which we’re using to build their sites) are free.
Once they start making money with the sites, they can transfer them from their free hosting at Weebly, to their own hosts. Alternatively, they can leave their sites on Weebly, it doesn’t matter.
How to create a successful website which makes money for you
Here are some tips.
* Get started. You can’t make a mistake. Once you have an idea, act on it.
* You don’t have to know everything up front.
This is what holds most writers back, the thought, “Yes, but I don’t know how to…” As long as you know what you want, you can find the answers you need, so that you learn as you earn.
* You can’t make a mistake. A website is a website. It’s always useful for something. Often something you don’t expect. 
Let me leave you with this thought… You can turn a website into a home business. You don’t need to invest a cent. Your inspiration, talent, and writing skills are all you need. Creating websites is FUN. Create them. You won’t hit a home run with every site, but each site teaches you something. And whether a website makes a dollar a day for you, or hundreds of dollars a day, it’s hugely satisfying to create something out of nothing.
