Are you a new copywriter? If you are, Remember that when you’re writing copy, your aim is to sell. However, you mustn’t be seen to be selling. Your writing should persuade, motivate, inspire — and make sales.
This can be a challenge. Here are three tips which will help.
1. Research: Know the Product, and the Audience
The more familiar you are with the product you’re selling the more easy it is to write copy. In addition to knowing the product, you also have to understand the target audience, and what their hot triggers are.
Therefore when you start to write a new piece of copy, don’t start with the writing — start with research.
If you’re writing for a new client, you need to get as much information from him as you can. He (or she) knows his customers. You need to ask enough questions so that you know enough to write the copy with ease. By the time you’ve finished your research, you should be bubbling over with ideas for the copy.
The Internet has made it easy to understand many audiences. Therefore, with most products you’ll be able to do research online at forums and on blogs. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The more you know before you start writing the copy, the more effective your copy will be.
2. Hot Triggers: What Sells to This Market?
Every market has its own hot triggers. In the Internet marketing niche for example, there are two primary hot triggers. The first is speed: anything Internet marketers buy must be effective fast. The second hot trigger is money. The more money the product can potentially make for a marketer the more he’ll be moved to buy.
Make a list of the hot triggers which will move people to buy your product.
3. It’s All in the Offer: Use Split-testing
No matter how wonderful product, your copy won’t get off the ground if the offer is terrible.
Think carefully about the product’s hot triggers, and talk to the product’s customers about what would move them to buy immediately.
Finding the perfect offer is difficult. Therefore, create several offers and ask the client to split-test them. You’ll soon find out which offer the customers respond to best.
