Get to the next level in your writing

Do you have writing goals for your freelance career? I hope you do. Goals are essential.

Your goals will take you from where you are now, to where you want to be — usually much more quickly than you anticipated.

A few days ago David, a new writer, asked me how to get to the next level in his writing. He’s been writing Web articles and blogs, and has built up a great income. After six months, he’s ready to quit his day job.

David actually inspired this coming week’s ezine, “Build Your Writing Services, Build Your Income”. (The issue is out on Tuesday.)

Here’s an excerpt from my reply to him, making some suggestions to take him to the next level.

Always have goals, even when you’re not sure how to achieve them

Hi David

You inspired next week’s ezine, which shows you how to build your writing services, but here’s what’s essential: you need goals, even when you’re not sure how to achieve them. When you set goals, the way to achieve them will become apparent: your writing will show you the way.

So set some goals. :-)

I enjoyed your blogs, especially your niche blog on _________. (I won’t reveal the topic, I don’t want to inadvertently increase David’s competition in the niche.)

Here are a some suggestions — feel free to ignore them if they don’t resonate with you:

* Create a short report for the niche, and start building a subscriber list by offering the report for free. (You can use this report as a writing sample too, many Internet marketers use short reports, and are always looking for writers for them. Always try to get as much use as you can out of all the writing you do.);

* Write an ebook on the topic, and offer it for sale — you can use your blog posts as the basis for the ebook;

* Start another blog on _________. I just did some quick research, and noticed that your _________ topic is very hot, so it would support another blog, targeting these keywords __________, ___________, and ___________.

You’ve built the basis of a great writing career, now it’s time to focus on projects which will build a residual income for you.

Happy writing — keep me updated on your progress.

Cheers

Angela
