Consider copywriting.

In the past two days, I’ve heard from copywriting students who’ve landed great-paying gigs. Remember, in a down economy, companies need copywriting skills as much, if not more, than ever. And they’re happy to hire new copywriters: you’re a lot cheaper than a pro, so they’re saving money.

Now’s a great time to get into copywriting. You’ll make more than you could at other kinds of writing, and the clients are happy to have you.

Just three of the projects landed by my copywriting students in the past couple of days:

* Punch up the home page of a company’s Web site

* Write a brochure for a new health food. If the brochure goes well, new copywriter will be offered the chance to write the Web site for the company

* Direct mail package for a “simple living” book

All of the projects paid over $2000, with a 50 per cent retainer.

So, if you’re wondering where your next magazine writing job is coming from, make the switch to copywriting.
