New to copywriting? You can make great money even if you’re a brand new copywriter, but you need to ensure that your clients feel comfortable sending money to your PayPal account.
The easiest way to do that is to create a Web site which says: “I’m available, I’m a good copywriter, and you can trust me.”
Here’s how to do that.
1. Provide Examples of Your Copywriting Skills (Your Site Is a Sample)
The biggest problem with most new-copywriter sites is that they make a lot of claims without providing any proof of the truth of those claims.
As a new copywriter, you won’t have case studies and client testimonials to present, and you don’t yet have a “name” for what you do, so you have to provide proof in other ways.
Think about how you could provide that proof. Could you create samples of the kinds of copy you write?
Remember that your potential clients are looking for a reason to hire you — anything which suggests that you’re competent, reliable and trustworthy gives them a reason.
A tip: low prices are not a reason to hire you. In fact low prices are a reason to avoid you. Every client wants the best copywriter he can afford, not the cheapest.
2. More Content!
A one-page site is only a beginning. Remember that the Web has trillions of pages, and millions more are added each week. Your one-page site won’t make much of an impression. The more content your site has, the easier it becomes for your clients to find you.
3. Create a Briefing Form
The easiest way to discover exactly what a prospective clients needs and if you can provide those services, is to create briefing form. A brief is a description of what the project consists of.
Create a briefing form either directly on your site, or as a PDF form which you can send to your prospect.
You can’t quote on a project without a detailed brief, so make it easy for your clients to provide the information you need.
4. Make Friends: Use the Social Networking Sites
In addition to content, your site needs something else: links. You can get those links easily on the social networking sites — Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and the hundreds of other such sites.
While you should never spam, you should aim to build relationships. These sites, used well, can provide links to your site so that prospects can find you.
So there you have four ways in which you can use your Web site to get copywriting clients. Before you know it, you’ll have more clients than you can handle.
