Above: just some of the options in Thesis
If you’re not blogging, please ignore this message, it’s for WordPress bloggers only. BTW, you SHOULD be blogging, so shame on you, why aren’t you building your freelance career?!
This blog was getting stale, so I started looking for a new theme. I settled on Mimbo, a news-type theme, but I’m already using a news-type theme on Writing Hacker, so I changed my mind and bought Thesis.
Why pay for a theme when there are so many wonderful free WordPress themes?
Here are my reasons:
* Ease of use. Thesis is customizable, from within a browser.
* Style. Thesis has a simple look, which I can fiddle with to get it looking the way I want, and when I get bored, I can change it.
* Help. With a free theme, you’re on your own. Thesis has an active community, so there’s a place to get help when you need it.
Bear with me while I get everything squared away with Thesis. I need to change the H2 tags on posts which use them to H3, because the H2 tags look big and ugly. This will take time, but it gives me a chance to revisit older posts and update them if they need it.
So, should you pay for a WordPress theme? My answer – only if you love the theme, and if it does exactly what you want.
