A couple of days ago I was chatting with an editor with whom I used to work in my magazine writing days.

Since I write mainly for the Web now, he challenged me to come up with ONE primary benefit of writing for the Web. He has an old-fashioned viewpoint, that real writers write for print. :-)
“You mean aside from being paid instantly.. or at most in days rather than months?” I shot back.

I assume he was hanging his head in shame at that zinger, because I remember chasing him for money a few years back, at which time he told me snippily: “The company’s worth three hundred million! You’ll get paid.”

Fond memories? No.

So I told him. “The Number One benefit of writing for the Web is that I can write what I like, when I like, and can get paid for it.”

Write whatever you please - you can monetize just about anything on the Web

That really is the primary benefit of writing for the Web for writers.

You don’t have to come up with dozens of queries in order to sell a couple of magazine articles. You don’t have to wait to be paid.

You’re the king or queen of words, and your words are worth money online.

Oddly enough, you can even get paid for your unsold novel - by selling it as an e-serial.

So what’s not to like? Writing for the Web is FUN. :-)
