Get Known As A Web Writer And Make Money

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Like to make money writing for the Web? You can, and much more easily than writing for print. The Web is starved for writers - any writers.

Your first step in your Web writing career is to let the people who need your services know that you’re available.

You get known as a Web writer and get Web writing commissions in a slightly different way from other forms of writing for money.

If you’re writing for magazines for example, you’d send out queries and proposals and wait for an editor to bite. You can certainly query well-known Web sites you’d like to write for, but there’s an easier way.

You can meet your prospective clients where they are - on the Web.

Hang Out Where Your Clients Are

Your clients for your Web writing services will be Webmasters and Web marketers, so find discussion groups where these people hang out, and mingle.

Read each discussion group or forum for a few days, to see what the conversations are about. Then, you can advertise your Web writing services in the “signature” you add to your postings. Keep your signature brief, just a couple of lines, because you don’t want to be accused of spamming the group.

A tip - join the conversations in these groups as a real participant. Although your aim is to get Web writing work, it’s important that you get to know the people in the group, and that people get to know you. People hire the people they know, like and trust.

While you’re exploring groups, and becoming known as a Web writer, create a simple one or two page portfolio Web site. Over time, you’ll want to add to this site, but in the beginning, just create a small site to advertise your services.

Enjoy writing for the Web. Since most freelance writers haven’t cottoned on to the Web writing gold mine yet, lay the foundations for your Web writing career now, and profit for years to come.

Writing Web Content: What Does a Web Writer Write?

Web writing is the hottest new opportunity for freelance writers. Many writers are making the switch to the online environment because selling what you write on the Web is easy. It’s also easy to find writing gigs.

A web writer writes anything and everything you find online.

Types of writing include:

* Web site pages

* Articles - the more content a site has, the more visible it is in the search engines, so articles are highly desirable

* Web sales pages (a form of copywriting)

* autoresponder sequences

* ezines (email newsletters)

* Web ezines

* ebooks for people to sell online

* product descriptions

The types of content are unlimited - you write what’s required.

Getting Hired As A Web Writer

The easiest way to get hired as a Web writer is to create your own Web site - it doesn’t need to be longer than a couple of pages - to advertise your services. Once people know you’re available, you’ll soon have a stable of clients for your services.

Your Web site acts as a portfolio for your services - it gives your prospective clients an idea of the services you provide.

Your Own Web Sites - Profit from Your Own Web Writing

When Web writers start writing, they’re happy to collect the cash and write for others. However, they soon discover that Web writing equals MONEY… so they begin to create their own Web sites, and monetize them in various ways.

You Don’t Need To Become A Geek To Write For The Web

Geekiness isn’t required, but the more you know about how the Web works, the more opportunities you will see and make for yourself. So by all means learn the basics of the Web - how to buy a domain name and set up a basic site, and how the search engines rank Web pages.

Can you write for the Web? If you’re writing for print, you can write for the Web. It’s a fast way to get published, it’s a lot of fun, and it’s also very profitable.

This week’s article in Fab Freelance Writing Ezine is “Copywriting Success: If You Can Write A Letter, You Can Write Copy”.

Here’s an excerpt:

Writing copy is the easiest and fastest way to make a great income as a writer. With other forms of writing like novels, non-fiction books, articles and screenplays, it’s a buyers market, and you’re at the whim of editors. But when you write copy, you’re in demand and it’s a seller’s market: when the word gets out that you write copy, you’ll be booked solid for weeks and months ahead.

So becoming a copywriter is the way to go if you want to make a consistently high income writing.

The ezine is out tomorrow.

Tip: If you want a fast-start to a copywriting career, read my ebook “Seven Days To Easy Money: Copywriting Success”.
