I can’t believe that 2006 is almost over. It’s time to update your diaries and planners (if you’re anything like me, you have multiples of each) so you can make 2007 your most PROFITABLE writing year ever.
Have you set your freelance writing goals for 2007? That’s your first and most important step. Please don’t forget to set monetary goals too.
Your next step is to translate your goals into tasks. This is because you can’t “do” goals, you can only do tasks.
For example, if your goal is to sell two articles a week to magazines, you can’t do that goal, you can only do tasks which will lead you to the accomplishment of that goal. Therefore, you might decide that you need to create ten to twenty queries every week until you have an inventory of queries which you can repurpose for different magazines.
In your diary or task list, enter “Create two (or four) article queries” for each weekday. If you’re serious about achieving your goals, then those tasks are non-negotiable. You WILL do them. The only possible excuse you have for not doing those tasks is that you’re hospitalized. ![]()
Or perhaps you’re setting up a freelance copywriting services business. Your goal for 2007 is to make $40,000 a year, and develop a stable of clients. You can’t do that goal remember - you can only do tasks.
So you need to break that over-arching goal into smaller, achievable targets. Set new goals: client acquisition goals, promotion goals, etc. Then break those goals down into doable tasks, and enter those tasks into your diary, and DO them.
Note: our holiday season special offer is in its final days - don’t forget to take advantage of it for a successful 2007.
Final days: Holiday Season Writer’s Gift Pack - I wish you a wonderful 2007, and your best writing year ever.
