If you’re writing fiction, you may know that I have a blog just for people who write books — Just Write a Book Blog. We cover writing fiction — short stories, novellas, and novels — on that blog. (And nonfiction too.)
It’s a little confusing, I know, because we’ve been covering fiction here. So, going forward, all fiction posts will appear on the Just Write a Book Blog.
The fiction articles which are already here, will stay on this blog; I’ll get them organized, so you can find what you need. In the meantime, use the Search function, or the tag cloud in the sidebar to find fiction articles.
Fiction Basics: what you need to know to start writing and SELLING fiction
We’re starting a new series on the Just Write a Book Blog: Fiction Basics: How to build a brilliant career as a novelist and short story writer. It’s for writers who are new to fiction.
Everyone can tell a story. We do it every day. However, when it comes to writing those stories down, even the best writers can be intimidated. So, if that sounds like you, I know you’ll enjoy Fiction Basics.
Too many writers stumble with fiction. They get an amazing idea for a story, write a few pages — and sometimes many more than a few — but they never complete the book. This is sad.
Fiction Basics will show you how to start your stories, how to write them, and how to publish them. It will be huge fun.
Yes, YOU can write fiction
- “I’m not imaginative”;
- “I don’t know how to start”;
- “What I write is boring”.
The above comments are common. Please don’t believe them.
Here’s all you need to know about yourself to decide whether or not you can write fiction… Do you enjoy reading fiction?
If you do, you can write it. I started my writing career writing romance novels. I love fiction. When I was ten I almost burned my bedroom down because I read under the bed with a candle after my parents told me to turn off the light and go to sleep. By the time the smell of burning alerted me that there was a problem, my mattress was smoldering.
In high school, teachers were always confiscating my my books, because I read under my desk during class.
I was incorrigible — I just loved to read, and I still do.
If YOU love to read novels, you can write them. All you need is a little know-how and the willingness to practice.
Join us on the Just Write a Book Blog for Fiction Basics; the series will start soon.
