Loss Leader Products’ Secrets
“Loss leader” products are products you create to get visibility, and to build a mailing list of people who love your products.
Loss leader products are “instant” products — they’re short, and cover just ONE thing.
They’re useful because they spread your name. They ensure that you become known for creating products in an area — you become an “expert” in an area; an authority.
You won’t make much money out of your loss leaders. However, they will build a base of trust and visibility for you, so that you WILL make money from not only your instant products, but also your flagship products.
How loss leader products work
Loss leaders build your list of buyers. The bigger your list, the more you’ll sell of each and every product you create.
Let’s look at how you would choose one of your products to be your loss leader.

You’ve decided to split up your big product into smaller ones, and to create one product from each one of the following:
* Snippets from your weight loss diary, with images, showing the weight coming off;
* A 30-day meal plan;
* Nutritional information;
* An audio interview with a nutritionist;
* An exercise plan;
* A complete how-to instructional guide (PDF);
* A video series on how to make diet food appetizing…
You’ve got eight products. Which one becomes your loss leader?
You can look at these eight as “instant” products — remember, an instant product just has one idea.
Create and sell THREE products, before using one as a loss leader
Never use a product as a loss leader if that’s the only product you have in an area, it’s pointless.
Your loss leader exists only to build your credibility, and to entice people to buy your other products. If you have no other products, there’s nothing else for them to buy.
BIG TIP: create products in one area at a time, so that you have at least THREE of them, preferably more. Never jump from one topic to another — you must always have more than one product in a topic. Then anyone who buys one of your products, will be able to buy several — you’d be astonished at how many people will buy ALL of the products you have in an area.
New information product creators create an ebook on a weight loss topic, then they create one on how to save money, then they create one on gardening, then a product on buying a used car… This is disastrous. They never become known for anything, and most of their buyers distrust them, because they jump from topic to topic.
Yes, of course you can create info products in various areas, BUT you must do that AFTER you’ve created a buyer base in one area. Then you need to create a buyer base in the next area. Your products must reinforce each other, rather than confusing people.

In summary, if you’re selling information products, create a loss leader, and offer it for sale. Encourage buyers to join your mailing list. Your sales will increase over time.
