Blogging’s popular, and perhaps you’ve considered blogging, but: “It takes too much time,” you decided.
Let’s create an “instant” profitable blog, a blog to which you can devote just five minutes a day. To do it, we’ll take a lesson from the popular blogging platform Tumblr, which in late March of 2013, hosted 100 million blogs.
Important: you don’t need to create your blog on Tumblr, you can use any platform you choose; we’re simply using Tumblr as an example. If you can spare five minutes a day, you can create a profitable blog on any platform you like.
If you’re familiar with Tumblr, you know that you have a choice of seven blog post formats: text, photo, quote, link, chat, audio and video, as you can see in the image below.
These formats mean that you have the option to create long blog posts, or you can make them very short. For our purposes, most of your blog posts will be short. How long does it take to post a photo? Half a minute, perhaps?
Before you get started however, you have two decisions to make.
1. What Are You Selling, or Promoting (in Other Words, How Will Your Blog Make Money?)
A profitable blog, by definition, makes money for you.
The most hassle-free way to make money from a blog is to host advertisements. Advertisers pay you to access your traffic. Google’s AdSense program is a form of advertising, for example. AdSense is popular with bloggers because it’s easy. You sign up, post ad units onto your blog, and make money.
Be aware that because blog advertising is easy for publishers, it’s also a real challenge to make money with it. Few of your visitors will click on your ads, and without clicks, you don’t have an income.
That’s the bad news. Luckily there are endless ways to make money from a blog. You can review products, promote affiliate products, and can sell your own products.
It doesn’t matter how you decide to make money, as long as you decide BEFORE you create a blog. I’ve worked with many bloggers. Deciding on a monetization method after a blog’s been active for a while is a real hassle. Choose first.
2. How Will You Reach Your Audience?
Now you know what you’re selling on your blog, it’s time to consider your audience. How will you reach them? Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook are popular, but consider that many bloggers have this idea too — there’s competition for attention.
This means that you need to nurture relationships, and you need to be patient.
Summing up: you can create a profitable blog in five minutes a day. Before you create your blog, think about how you’ll monetize your content, and how you’ll reach your audience.
