Want to do more with what you have? Blogging has many benefits, and once your content has appeared on your blog, you can repurpose it.
Many freelancers are wary of spending too much time blogging. They’d rather work on client projects for which they’re paid. However, blogging is a great way to build your platform (readership.) Building your platform is a longterm goal; it’s essential these days.
I’ve talked about writing for inventory before. Consider all your blogging as creating content for your own personal archive: your inventory.
This inventory is your go-to place when you’re creating products you can sell.
One of the easiest ways to reuse content is by repurposing it for Kindle publication. How long would it take you to collect several blog posts on a theme, and turn them into an “instant” ebook? You could do this in an hour or two.
On my Just Write a Book Blog, I talked about blogging your book.
Few writers do this, but it seems like a no-brainer to me. You write your book, and promote it, at the same time.
If you’re a new writer, you may be concerned with content thieves. Unfortunately, this does happen. However, the benefits far outweigh minor annoyances.
Let’s look at a couple of methods of repurposing for the Kindle.
- Create content with repurposing in mind
The big benefit of blogging is that your audience will tell you what it needs. For example, let’s say you have a blog on the topic of weight loss. You might find that your article on the “cottage cheese diet” is very popular.
You could write several more articles on cottage cheese for weight loss, post snippets to your blog, and then create a Kindle ebook on… yes, easy weight loss with cottage cheese.
- Package a “best of” series for the Kindle
Sticking with our fictitious weight loss blog, why not package up a series of your best posts as an ebook? You can make money from the ebook, while promoting your blog, and getting more traffic, which you can monetize.
