In addition to all the new Kindles, Amazon released something else at its press conference: Amazon Serials.
This article, Amazon Changed Reading. Now It Could Change Writing | Fast Company reported:
“In addition to the Kindle Fire HD and the Kindle Paperwhite, Amazon introduced a subscription book format at a press conference in Los Angeles Thursday. These books, called ‘Kindle Serials,’ will be released in segments instead of in their entirety. Updates, or ‘episodes,’ automatically appear at the back of the book as they’re created or released without extra charge.”
It’s a fascinating concept. The new episodes are added directly to the ebook, so readers can read each episode as it arrives on their Kindle. (Or on their Kindle app.)
Many writers are already releasing their novels in serial form, of course. Sara Fawkes scored a book deal with St Martin’s Press for the fifth installment of her e-serial novel.
If you’re interested in getting into Amazon’s Kindle Serials, here’s the submissions info:
We welcome submissions to Amazon Publishing’s Kindle Serials program. We’re looking for well-written stories by authors interested in engaging with readers through the unique nature of serialized publishing.
