Most of us hate asking questions. We think questions make us appear foolish.
However, there’s a danger in not asking questions. As this quote points out, The Heart of Innovation: 15 Great Quotes on the Importance of Asking the Right Question:
“”He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever.” – Chinese proverb“
Asking questions is at the heart of my 60-Second Content process.
Asking questions is also the first strategy I teach my writing students… writing anything is easier when you ask the right questions.
Why is asking questions so important?
Here’s why…
Questions contain solutions
If you don’t ask a question, you won’t find a solution. Worse, you may never realize that there’s a problem, AND that it’s possible to solve the problem.
Here’s a simple strategy which will pay off BIG for you over the next week or two. It will convince you of the importance of asking questions — and also that questioning is huge fun. 🙂
Take a pen and notepad to a place you can be alone for ten minutes.
Write this heading: “Questions I Should Ask Myself”.
Now start writing questions. Start with Who, What, Why, When, Where and How, and end with a question mark.
Your questions can be about anything at all, they don’t have to be about writing.
At the end of ten minutes, stop writing.
Read through your questions. If you have fewer than ten questions, start writing again. Aim for 20 questions. Sometimes the most important questions we need to ask are buried deeply.
You don’t have to do anything about your questions. Just asking them is enough. Today, tomorrow, in the middle of next week, usually when you’re busy doing something else, answers to your questions will pop into your mind.
Questions are magic. You can never ask enough questions. Try it.
