It’s almost Easter. This is a great time to step back, and assess the progress you’ve made so far in 2011. If you’ve forgotten the goals you set for yourself back in January, review them.
On the last day of 2010, I asked you: Eagle or Turkey in 2011?
The first four months of 2011 are almost over. Are you soaring? Or flapping?
If you’re flapping, let’s change that.
Get EXCITED: Use Your Imagination
Select one of your goals, and imagine yourself a few months from today.
You’ve achieved your goal. Look around you, in your imagination. What do you see? How do you feel?
Are you excited?
If you’re not, you need to amp up your goal.
The two most common mistakes I see when people set goals are:
* Omitting a deadline;
* Choosing blah goals.
A goal without a deadline is just a dream.
A blah goal is uninspiring. Every goal you set should excite you. You should LOVE your goals.
Often, writers fail to set goals which truly inspire them. Fear holds them back. They’ve been told they should be “realistic” — whatever that means. Forget realistic — create Wildly Improbable Goals.
The more inspiring your goals, the more you’ll achieve.
Write your Wildly Improbable Goal on several 3×5 index cards. Put the cards where you’ll see them. You can attach one to your computer’s monitor. Put another one in your pocket. Reread your goal several times a day. Daydream about it.
In a struggle between your willpower, and your imagination, your imagination will always win. Use your imagination to see yourself happily working towards your goal. Picture your successes. The more you dream about your goal, the more real it will seem to you.
You’ll become excited. Once this happens, you’ll be soaring, and then you’re well on the way to achieving your goal.
