(If you’re unfamiliar with article directories, basically they syndicate articles for you.)
Google’s latest algorithm change, aimed at junk content, has hit Ezine Articles too.
Chris Knight said in the blog post below: “Last month, we served 57 million unique visitors. Next month, that number may be in half.”
That’s bad news for anyone who’s using the site to market their content.
Ezine Articles is working hard to change course.
One of the changes they’re considering is restricting their content to exclusive material only. In the article Search Engine Algorithm Changes Chris says:
“Articles submitted are currently required to be exclusive to you (ie: Our software and human Editors won’t find your article submission on the Internet under someone else’s or no name) but they do not need to be exclusive to EzineArticles.com. We may change our position on this and begin rejecting content that is not unique to EzineArticles.com alone. More research is needed as this would be a radical change… and one that we will invest a serious amount of market study/discussion with our members before moving ahead.”
This would indeed be radical.
All clouds however have a silver lining, and this particular cloud is no exception. If Google is indeed turning up the algorithm to favor useful and unique content that’s a good thing for writers. 🙂 You’ll be able to sell more, and make more money.
Tip: if you’re currently writing articles for clients, make them aware of this change.
Get out ahead of this if it affects you: you need to make your clients aware, and change your business plan to suit. In the long-term, these content changes will be good for writers, as long as you’re aware of what’s happening.
In next week’s ezine, I’ll be discussing article writing and marketing, so I’ll be talking more about these changes.
