Want to write an ebook and sell it? You can build an excellent business as an information product producer as long as you keep this point in mind: the more desperate your audience, the more you will sell. This means that your sales potential must be built in to your product, it can’t be an afterthought.
I’ve been creating and selling ebooks and other info products for many years. If I’ve learned anything, it’s this: the audience comes first. You’ll have the most success when you sell products which buyers know they need, rather than those you think they need.
This can be a hard lesson to learn. If you’re a writer, you have enthusiasms. Just remember you’re writing for others: you must give them what they know they need.
Let’s look at how you can write your next ebook to sell.
1. Is There Are Market? Do They Buy Online?
Your first step is to assess the market. (Do this FIRST, before you start writing.)
You need to know whether a market exists for your ebook idea, and also, whether that market buys online. Some markets don’t, and it’s best to know this immediately.
I’m lazy, so here’s my super-simple method of initially assessing a market. Go to Google, and type your idea plus “ebook” into the search query field.
Are others selling ebooks? Excellent — you’ve cleared the first hurdle. This means you have a market, and they buy online.
2. Forum Mining: Who’s Talking About Your Topic?
Your next step is to discover whether people are talking about your idea/ topic online.
Go back to Google, and enter your idea plus “forum.”
If there are forums, that’s a very good sign. People care about your topic, and they talk about it.
No forums? Heed the signs, and look for another topic.
3. Promotion Starts Now: Create a Blog
Once you’ve tested your idea, and you’re as sure as you can be that people are desperate for your information, it’s time to create a blog.
Over the years, I’ve found that testing my ideas on blogs is the easiest way to gauge reactions. It has an added benefit: you’ve started marketing your ebook, and will build an audience before you launch your product.
If you follow these tips, you’ll write an ebook which will sell. Start today: test some ideas. You’ll be inspired.
