Have you noticed how popular article writing is becoming? You now have lots of competition for readers, so this means you need to give a little more thought to the articles you write.
I’ve been using article marketing for a decade, and I expect to use this easy promotional process for many years to come. However, what worked last year, is less likely to work today. You need to constantly update what you’re doing, as the conditions around you change.
Writing your articles with punch and style will ensure that you get readers today, and in the future.
Here are some tips to help.
1. Use Your Senses to Involve Your Readers
The more vivid your writing, the more effectively you’ll communicate what you want to say. Make your writing concrete by using your senses. Don’t just say “this hat is available in blue and brown” say “this Sam Spade-style Fedora is available in pearl gray, brushed-steel blue, and chestnut brown.”
However, don’t overdo this. You’re trying to create pictures in your readers’ mind, but those pictures must communicate clearly. Remember that at any one time, we can only contain up to seven thoughts in our mental RAM and you want several of those thoughts to inspire your readers to action, rather than bemusement.
2. Be Yourself: You Are Who You Are
Be yourself in your writing. As they say, you can’t fake sincerity.
Some bloggers and other writers take “be yourself” too far. Don’t use expletives. You’re writing your articles to achieve a business goal, not to startle or annoy people.
Write in an informal conversational style and avoid jargon-filled business-speak.
3. Avoid Word Salad: Set Goals for Your Articles
When you’re writing articles, it’s vital that you keep your goals in mind. This avoids what I call “word salad” — articles which are just written for the benefit of the search engines — and which will never attract human readers.
If you’re writing articles for others, they have goals too, so ask your client what his goals are for the content you’re writing. This makes it much easier to write.
Think about your article writing: you can write with punch and style. Try it on your next article.
