Do you want to make money writing? If so, you need writing samples. The people who hire you to write need to know how proficient you are. Therefore, it’s a good idea to spend a couple of weeks creating samples so that you have something to show.
1. Create Samples for the Kind of Writing You Want to Do
New writers seem to find creating samples a challenge, but it’s quite easy.
Firstly, what kind of writing do you want to do? If you want to write books, it might be a little difficult to write a complete book as a sample. However, you can certainly write a book proposal as a sample.
If you’re just starting out, create some article samples. Web articles are short, most are under 600 words, so it won’t take you long to create five or 10 articles.
If you’re not sure what topics you should choose for your articles, check the outsourcing sites. You’ll find that on these sites buyers of writing post projects for people to write articles. Just make a list of topics requested. If you have experience in any of these topics, choose a couple and write your samples.
2. Promote Your Samples on Blogs and on Forums
Once you’ve written your samples, it’s time to promote them, so that people know that you’re available to write.
If you don’t have a writer’s blog, create one. A blog is a fast and simple way of promoting yourself. Just post your articles or other samples to the blog.
Tip: new writers tend to worry about thieves stealing their work from their blog. This happens sometimes, but you can retaliate against thieves, so it’s not an issue.
3. Ask for Help when You Need It
Your writing samples are the bedrock of your writing business. You can’t get anywhere without them. If you’re not sure how to go about the process of creating samples, then get a writing coach. The money you spend on this is an investment in your business.
There are many writing coaches online, just ensure that your coach is experienced and has a good track record in teaching others.
