Want to make money writing for the Web? You can. Article marketing is hot online, so many people are looking for articles. Discover how you can profit from this hot online trend.

Although article marketing’s old hat online, new trends in advertising and Web search have pushed it into new popularity. If you’re a writer, you can take advantage of this new venue for your writing.

Let’s start by defining what “article marketing” is. In essence, it’s a form of online advertising. A Web site publishes short articles to online article directories. These articles include a “resource box”, which is an advertisement for the site.

Since content is valuable, the article marketer syndicates content to sites in exchange for the opportunity to push his advertising message.

The benefit of article marketing is that unlike other forms of advertising, which stop working when you stop paying, the benefits of syndicating lots of articles increase over time. Not only do the articles push immediate traffic to a business’s Web site, they also increase the site’s search engine rankings.

Since article marketing provides an unmatched return on investment, business owners actively look for article writers. Therefore, if you can write short articles of 300 to 800 words, you can make a good income. The more articles you write and sell, the more income you make.

You don’t need to be an experienced writer to write articles. Indeed most of the articles are written by beginning writers.

So how do you get started?

The easiest way to get start writing articles for article marketers is to win projects on the out-sourcing sites. However, since most of the bidders at these sites bid on price alone, this drives prices down.

If you want to become a professional Web article writer, you can get a couple of projects on the out-sourcing sites just to see how it all works, but you’ll lose money if you persist at these venues.

You need to offer articles from your own site. Buyers will happily pay for competent, reliable writers. You’ll quickly develop a stable of buyers who will buy from you each month.

Create Article Packages and Sell Them From Your Own Site

If you don’t already have a Web site, create one, and offer your article marketing services on the site. You can also create packages of articles on popular topics, and sell them to buyers directly.

Your Web site forms the basis of your operation. Promote your site, and you’ll get buyers for your services. How do you promote your site? With article marketing, of course.

Use Article Marketing Yourself, to Sell Your Writing Services

Just as you write articles for others, you can write them for yourself and post them to online directories. Your resource box will advertise your services, and will provide a link back to your site, where prospective buyers can contact you.

You’re not restricted in the topics for your own promotional articles. In other words, don’t write about “writing” or “article marketing.” Write articles in the topics in which you have expertise, and want to write articles for buyers.

For example, you could write articles in areas like health and fitness, home and family, travel, parenting - any areas in which you want to write articles for others.

For writers, article marketing is a goldmine. If you can write fast and well, and on a range of topics, you’ll find many buyers for your articles, and can make a great income.

Freelance Roadkill: the ONE fatal error you can make as a freelance writer

There’s one fatal error you can make as a freelance writer. This error is so pernicious that if you make it, you’ll never make the income you should be making as a freelance writer.

Times have never been better for freelancers. I’ve been writing for almost 30 years, and NOW is the best time ever for freelance writers. You’ve got more opportunities now that you could take advantage of in a hundred lifetimes. And the more experience you have as a writer, the more advantages you have.

So what’s this fatal error? Read on. :-)
Here’s a question for you first: what’s more important -

a) what you write, or

b) your readers?

If you chose A, you need to upgrade your thinking. You write to be READ so your readers come first.

Unfortunately, the creative spirit being what is is, writers write what they want to write, they rarely give a thought to their readers. If they do, it’s to wonder why they don’t have any.

The ONE fatal error you can make as a freelance writer

Here it is: lack of promotion.

If you don’t promote your writing, you won’t have readers. However, in order to turn promotion from a self-serving exercise in vanity, your readers come first, before you write.

Whatever you’re writing, whether it’s an article, a book, or an advertisement, think about your readers FIRST. What do they want? How can you make your writing appealing, and give them exactly what they want?

Then, when it comes to promoting your writing, you’ll know how to promote it, and you’ll feel great about your promotion, because you’re focused on your readers.

So, remember that promotion is just as important as writing, and you can make promotion easy and effective, if you remember your readers at every stage of the writing process.

Discover the secrets to promotion with “You CAN Sell Your Writing Now: Marketing Skills For Writers”.

When a Web site buys a magazine, it’s time to start thinking about new markets

The Knot Gets A Bump says:

“You know the media world has been turned upside down when Websites start buying magazines. Today, the Knot, which operates the wedding site of the same name, acquired The Bump, a group of local magazines and maternity guides in 11 cities. Terms were not disclosed.”

I know many freelancers target the wedding/ first home/ parenting demographics, and if this is you, take the hint and start targeting new Web sites sprouting in those niches. You should be able to get a weekly article (column in mag terms) or even a twice weekly blogging gig.

The above three demographics are hungry markets, so even if you’re just starting out as a freelance writer, you’ll got a great chance of becoming a regular contributor to new sites.

Make money writing Web sites

If you can use a word processor, you can write Web sites.

Many writers shy away from creating Web sites… they imagine it’s too techy, too complex. It’s not. A small simple site can begin earning money for you very quickly. As a rule of thumb, if you’ve created a site in an area in which there are advertisers you can start earning five to ten dollars a day per site. Now $10 a day isn’t much. But what if you had ten sites all earning $10 day? That’s $100 a day, which is $36,500 a year, just from ten simple sites. What if you had 20 such sites, all earning you $10 a day - or even more - in fact, some sites will earn you $100 a day? “Super-Fast Money-Making Web Sites For Writers: Join The Web-Publishing Bonanza” shows you how.
