Want to make a great income as a freelance writer?

As I’ve said many times before, and will go on saying that the key to your writing success is just two things - CREATION and PROMOTION.

You must promote (market) yourself and your writing to succeed. If no one knows what you do, no one can hire you.

As Small Business Success Stories: What We’ve Learned So Far reports:

You don’t have to become an SEO expert, but you should devote consistent time to learning the latest trends and tactics in online marketing. I see tons of talent go to waste because of the lack of how to get the word out about yourself.’”

I know many writers are shy. However, you’re doing both yourself and your potential clients a huge disservice if you let this get the better of you.

You must promote, every day.

BTW, this teaching writers how and when and why to promote is the reason that most of my ebooks come with coaching. I want to stop you wasting years of your life because you don’t have experience. And aside from writing experience, experience in promotion is where 99 per cent of writers fall down.

I’ll always be grateful to two people - an agent and an editor - who helped me far beyond the calls of duty when I started writing around 30 years ago. They took a naive creative and set me on the road to understanding how writing and publishing works.

I chuckled when I read the story because many writers think a “six figure income” is hype. Either that, or they think that a great income is reserved for copywriters, or genre novelists, or other specialist writers.

The fact is that YOU can develop a six-figure writing career: you just need to know that it’s possible to earn $250,000 a year and more as a freelance writer, and then make that your goal.

What kinds of services can you offer?

Online, people buy: articles, ebooks, blog posts, and Web site content. To sell your writing services, you need to get your name in front of the people who can hire you.

When you’re just starting out as a writer, you’ll spend all your time on promotion. As you get clients, you’ll spend less time promoting yourself, but you should always do some promotion every day.

Let’s look at some easy ways in which you can promote your writing services.

* Use Craigslist and Other Free Classifieds Sites

You can post as many ads as you please, however do make sure that all the ads you post are different. Craigslist is a great venue, and as your ads are indexed by the search engines, people will visit your site to check out your writing services.

* Write Articles for the Article Directories

When you write articles, people who read the articles will check out your site. The more articles you write, the more traffic, and the more income you’ll make.

* Join Relevant Forums (Not Writer’s Forums, Because Writers Can’t Hire You)

Forums are a great way to get buyers. Make sure that you join forums whose members hire writers.

* Trade Links With Other Sites

Links are the currency of the Web. The more links to your site, the more traffic you’ll get, and the more buyers of your writing services.

There are many other ways you can promote your writing services. Remember that you should be promoting yourself offline, too. The more you promote, the more buyers you will get for your writing.

There’s never been an easier time to make money writing. Your skills are in high demand. All you need to do is to promote yourself. Before you know it, you’ll have a large stable of regular clients.

Developing a copywriting services business makes sense if you want to write from home.

How does $250 an hour sound to you? Copywriters are in high demand.

There’s no limitations on who can write copy. Neither age nor education is a bar: your clients don’t care.

If you write articles to promote your writing services, Ezine Articles is one of the most popular venues.

Some writers turn their “expert” status at Ezine Articles into full time writing careers.

Chris Knight of Ezine Articles just posted a great tip on his blog - you can use it to promote your articles.

In Articles By Expert Name Domains Chris says:

“(By registering a domain) Essentially they have made it easier to mention or give out their EzineArticles expert author URL in a domain name format that is easier to say, spell or be remembered when the ‘elevator pitch’ moment happens.”
