Are you making the most of your freelance writing career? Earlier this week, I chatted with a freelancer who deep-dived into self-publishing at the beginning of last year.
She’s on track to earn more from her self-publishing efforts this year than she made in her six-figure day job last year, and wants to write full-time. She said: “If I can do so well part-time, I’m looking forward to spending all my time on indie publishing.”
Writing a mix of fiction and nonfiction, she hopes to turn self-publishing into a family affair, with her sister and husband joining her in the business.

Freelance writing profits: fiction is hot, and so is content
I know that many of this blog’s readers are jumping into fiction, and there are still lots of opportunities in under-served genres (categories.)
Tip: be wary of erotica at the moment. Many authors of adult fiction are experiencing rank-stripping at Amazon:
Towards the end of March, the romance community began to notice romance and erotic novels being stripped of their ranks and/or reviews, without an explanation.
Although Amazon has yet to make a statement about what’s going on, it’s clear that any book that contains adult content could be stripped. Of course that’s devastating to both authors and readers.
Fiction aside, many writers are doing well with content creation. Blogging is chugging along; currently companies are hiring bloggers on long-term contracts.
Here are our current special offerings. Enjoy. 🙂
