Whether you have a day job, or are a full-time writer, mobile writing has become essential. I write wherever I happen to be, mostly in Evernote. I’m always looking for ways to make writing on the go easier however.
Quip is a word processor with a difference; it’s a combination of a messaging app, collaboration tool, and text editor. It’s just released native Mac and Windows apps, which are distinctly different from other text editors.
“Quip doesn’t tie into to traditional file systems or formats; every document is instead built directly into the app, which quickly saves even the tiniest changes to the cloud. You can import or export Office files, but this feels more like a concession than a feature.”
Quip is fast, brilliantly so: it updates instantly
I’ve occasionally used the Quip app on my iPad, but without a dedicated desktop app, it had limited appeal.
Here’s what I like about this new iteration of Quip. Magically it makes cloud computing work like it’s supposed to. Even my beloved Evernote struggles with the cloud occasionally, and when it does, it’s irritating.
Quip speedily updates itself across your devices.
Quip’s handy if you just want to take something with you
I’m plotting a new novella, and this morning Quip came in handy. I hate being interrupted in the middle of something; my mind was buzzing with ideas. I copied my text from Scrivener to Evernote, and on a whim, to Quip.
Working in the Quip app on my phone was easy. I think I’ve just found my new favorite mobile writing app. 🙂
