We’re all entrepreneur writers now, whether we realize it, or not. We’re creative business people. I wrote a little about that on a writing journal post. I know that writers HATE thinking about business.
I used to be like that too. It would be lovely if we could just write, and forget about business. Life doesn’t work that way however. If we just focus on writing, we’re doomed. Your family starts making snide comments about all the time you spend writing. If you look on your writing as a hobby, that’s fine. You just cut down on it, and spend more time with your family and friends. Maybe you get a second job to make ends meet.
On the other hand, if you truly want to SELL your writing, you’re stuck. How do you make more money from your writing? Business raises its intimidating head.
A couple of months ago, we looked at what we’ll be doing going forward. We mentioned the Blue Ocean strategy:
Diving Into the Blue Ocean and Making Competition Irrelevant
Since freelancing is the new normal, and competition is HUGE and getting bigger, we need to do something different. I like the Blue Ocean Strategy.
Exploring Blue Oceans, and Making Competition Irrelevant
In a sense, that’s part of what we cover in Your Creative Business: Coaching to Turn Your Creativity into Profits. You’re creative, and as a creative, you’re UNIQUE. There’s no one like you, nor will there ever be. So as creatives, that makes business easier for us, if we realize it and wholeheartedly accept it.
You’re not a pizza parlor, or a someone who sells shoes. Any normal business has real competition… unless they make competition irrelevant, because they create a Blue Ocean. As a creative, you can make competition irrelevant, because you’re running a creative business…again, whether you realize it, or not. 🙂
It’s time to embrace your creativity. And business. And then find your Blue Ocean. Chances are, your ocean isn’t where you’re looking right now. Finding your own Blue Ocean is something you need to do alone. No one can help you with it, because it’s YOU. However, we can make it easier. I can create free content here, for you to use to sail into your own Blue Ocean.
Tell me what you need. Send me an email message, or use the form below.
Please tell me:
- Your biggest challenge, right now, with your writing (even if it’s not business-related);
- Your biggest sales challenge. Is it getting sign ups to a mailing list? Promoting your ebooks? Promoting your services?
- Business related: do you have a sales funnel? Are you targeting a specific market? What promotional strategies do you use, and do they work?
Your reply is completely confidential. That’s why we’re using email, rather than comments. You can speak directly to me, and tell me what free content you need, to help you get comfortable with your inner entrepreneur, and trust him/ her. Onward… lets create our own Blue Oceans. 🙂
