5 Writing Tips: Write and Sell PLR

Got spare time? If you enjoy writing articles, creating Private Label Rights (PLR) content is an easy way to add to your freelance income. It’s attractive to many of your clients because it provides them with content at a very reasonable price.

Firstly, what’s “Private Label Rights” content? It’s content you create, usually short articles, which you sell with the right to edit and change the content in any way the buyer wishes. PLR is sold in packages, and a limited number of packages are sold. Let’s say you write a package of ten 400-word articles about social media marketing. You offer 50 of those packages. Once all 50 are sold, you remove the offering.

The fewer packages you sell, the higher the prices you charge. For example, let’s say that you charge $1 per 250 words for PLR, and sell 50 packages. If you choose to sell 20 packages only, you can charge $2 per 250 words.

Tip: the prices you charge are up to you. If your PLR requires a lot of research, and is in specialized topics, you’ll charge more. Anytime you’re the only person creating something, and there’s a market for what you’re creating, you can charge more.

PLR comes in an out of fashion. Few writers use it properly. Done well, it’s an easy way to add to your income, without too much effort, because many of your current clients will see PLR content as a bargain.

Let’s look at five writing tips which will help you to write and sell PLR.

1. Plan: What Do Your Current Clients Need? (ASK.)

If you’ve got clients, consider their needs. How much content do they produce? Could PLR content help them to grow their business, by enabling them to do more marketing?

Your clients are busy running their businesses. Most would love to do more marketing, but they need someone to create content. Show them how to use PLR to create free reports and newsletters. If they don’t post the PLR content to their websites, they can use PLR with minimal editing.

Remember to talk to your clients. ASK them what they need. Explain what PLR is, then ask them what kind of PLR would help their business.

2. Offer to Customize Packages for Buyers.

Google penalizes duplicate content, and content which is similar to what’s already online. This means that PLR must be edited. For clients who want to use your PLR on their websites, offer to customize it for them. Of course you’ll charge for the customization.

3. Go Local: Create PLR for Local Businesses.

The PLR you create for local businesses can be profitable. In Sure-Fire Bestsellers: Local PLR, I said:

Local PLR is PLR which you write for local businesses. Every city and town has professionals and trades people — doctors, lawyers, dentists, veterinarians, plumbers, electricians, etc.

These people often don’t have a Web site, even though they’re well aware that they need one. Moreover, even if they do have a website, this site has little content. Since these local business people are in business, they know the value of a good website. However, they’re busy. They don’t have the time to focus on a site.

PLR content can not only help local businesses to create a website, but also add more content quickly to established websites.

4. No-Brainer PLR: Customizable Reports Sell.

As well as creating PLR articles, create short reports. You can sell packages of five articles, plus a short report of five pages. These kinds of packages are quick to create, and they sell.

5. Love Creating PLR? Sell Subscription Packages.

If you enjoy creating PLR, create subscriptions. We’ve talked about retainers – keeping clients coming back. When you sell subscriptions, your clients remember you. This means that they’ll hire you when they need a writer.

Subscription packages are appealing to affiliate marketers, because they’re always looking for content. They’re also appealing to small businesses, which have a limited budget for content.

If you’ve got a little time to spare, creating PLR content can create an additional income stream for you, with little effort.
