Want to triple your writing income within the next few months? It can be simpler than you imagine. If you put just one of the ideas in this article into action, you’ll benefit.
You can triple your income because there are huge opportunities available for writers at the moment. Websites want and need content, and you can provide it.
There’s so much writing work available that you can become a full-time writer very quickly, if you’re still working a day job. You can make more money as a writer than you can at most jobs. Want to make a six-figure income? You can.
Let’s look at the five ways you can triple your income FAST.
1. List Your Assets: Commit to Using Them
What are your assets? Few writers sit down and list what they have going for them. Your assets could include: your website, your clients, projects on which you’ve worked, software you own, your cellphone and its camera and/ or a digital camera, your writing inventory…
Your assets also include your own attributes: determination, courage, kindness, willingness to go the extra mile, writing skill, creativity…
When I suggest my coaching students that they list their assets, they’re always surprised at what they have, and what they’ve overlooked. Within a short time, they’re bubbling with ideas for how to use their assets.
Once you’ve made the list, take one item – your website for example – and list TWO things you could do with that asset which would increase your income. With your website, you could: sell affiliate products, develop new writing services, and sell your own products on your site. Commit to making the most of your assets.
Keep your list of assets. Review them at least once a week.
2. “Hi, I’m a Freelance Writer”
How many people have you contacted about your writing this week?
When I ask my students this, they usually say that they’ve contacted from one to five people. I’ve often talked about introducing yourself around. If no one knows you write, no one can hire you.
Get in touch with people.
I get that you’re shy. I am too. However, in writing it’s never who you know (although that can help.) It’s always who knows you.
A couple of weeks ago, I asked one of my writing students, Wes, to contact five companies a day. All he had to do was introduce himself, and share one way he could help the company with their communications. Wes called me on the third day. He needed help creating a proposal for one of the companies he contacted – they were working on a project, and needed a writer.
Wes and I created the proposal. A few days after that, Wes had a deposit of $2,850 in his bank account. Wes was shocked. He couldn’t believe how easy getting a great gig can be.
People need you. Get in touch. Introduce yourself.
3. Increase Your Rates: You’re Worth It
Increase your rates.
Read this article on charging what you’re worth, and do it.
4. Only Write What You Enjoy Writing
What do you enjoy writing? Do more of that. The more enthusiastic you are about your writing, the more you’ll get hired.
5. Think “Business”: Systemize What You Do
Whatever kind of writing business you create, think of creating systems for what you do. You need systems for getting clients, and for getting the writing done.
As you make more money, remember that you’re creating a business. Make it your goal to only do what only you can do – eventually.
So there you have it. Five simple ways to triple your writing income. List your assets, and move forward. And have fun while you’re doing it.
