Beginning Freelance Writer to Pro, Part 2: Create Something to Sell

Pencil Pad

In the first article in this “Beginning Freelance Writer to Pro” series, you created a fast and easy website, completely for free:

Go to Weebly, and create a website. Call the site: yourname.weebly.com. Yes, please just use your name. Just like Baldrick, we have a cunning plan. If you follow our cunning plan, you’ll sell something this week. Selling your writing is easy – if you have a plan.

Your plan starts with your website. So, please do that. It will only take you a minute or two. Weebly is free.

If you haven’t done that, please do that first.

A tip if you’re a procrastinator: DO IT. I’m sure you can come up with a million excuses why this isn’t the right time, and why you need to do something else first, but just do it, please. Even if you only have three minutes. Take action.

What will you sell?

The Web is incredible. Way back in the early 1990s, I gave presentations called: “The Internet – the New Age of Creativity”. That’s over 20 years ago, and no one knew what the Internet was. People looked at me as if I were a space alien.

Today, I want to SHAKE writers who fail to see what’s right in front of their eyes – the million and one opportunities they have. I also know I’m being silly, and unfair. If you don’t know what you’re looking at, you can’t see an opportunity. That’s the reason I created SYWON – to help writers to see and make use of their opportunities.

But I digress.

What will you sell?

You can sell:

  • Your writing services and/ or editing services (offer a specific service, or offer packages of services);

  • Products you’ve created: short reports, ebooks, print books, blogs, articles…

  • Something you’ve created in another form, and repurpose it.

Pick something NOW

Make a list of offerings which would be EASY for you to create and sell. Just pick one thing for now.

Important Tip: make your first offering something you can create quickly – or just a service. There’s a reason for this. If you choose to offer something which will take time to create, you’ll never get it done.

Add a contact page to Weebly

Once you’ve chosen something you can create quickly (within a couple of hours, max) go back to Weebly, and add a contact page to your site.

If you have profiles on social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and Google+, you can add those too.

ACTION: Create your first offering

In our next article, you’ll add your offering to your website, with an order button.

Therefore, please create the offering now.

Create your own high-income writing career – work fewer hours than you’re working now

As a freelance writer, you’re in control. You have unlimited opportunities, and you can make much more money than you can make at a day job. And no one can fire you… Create your new writing career today.
