Top Opportunities for Writers in 2012: Freshness Means Writing Jobs

Google

We’re in the final weeks of 2011, so let’s look at some of the fantastic opportunities for savvy writers in 2012.

The first opportunity comes to you courtesy of Google.

Last month, Google announced its “freshness” update:

Search results, like warm cookies right out of the oven or cool refreshing fruit on a hot summer’s day, are best when they’re fresh. Even if you don’t specify it in your search, you probably want search results that are relevant and recent.

So, what does this mean to you as a Web writer in 2012?

Essentially, it’s an opportunity for you to promote your content writing services: web content, blogging, and social media services to your clients.

Most of your clients rely on Google for traffic. Tell them about Google’s freshness bias. Encourage them to sign up with you for an “updating” service. This can mean anything you want it to mean.

Services you might offer include:

* Daily/ weekly blog posts;

* Daily Twitter/ Facebook updates;

* Monthly website updates;

* Monthly press releases… Etc.

Think about the services you’re offering now, and get creative with the new services you offer.

I encourage you to offer your updates as an on-going service. Compared to other forms of marketing, content creation is inexpensive, and the effects, over time, are powerful. The content you create for a client today can make money for him for years to come.

Sign up as many clients as you can, with a retainer, so that you have a guaranteed income each and every month in 2012.
