Sell Your Heart Out — No, Really, I’m Not Kidding

Writers hate marketing. Selling anything, much less ourselves, makes us nervous.

Here’s the solution, and it’s a simple one: just do it. Get used to marketing yourself, OR confine yourself to an itty bitty writing career. (And don’t complain if you choose to do that — it’s YOUR choice.)

I loved this message from Liliana Hart on the IndieRomanceInk group IndieRomanceInk : Message: Re: [IndieRomanceInk] I’ve Hit 50K. She discusses how she sells her ebooks (novels) online:

“1.) Social media is my #1 marketing device. I’m always establishing relationships with readers through Twitter and Facebook. And I promise it works. I can’t tell you how many times I get twitter alerts that tell me my followers are talking about me or my books to other people who aren’t following me. It takes time, but I’ve decided sleep is overrated. ”

There are endless ways you can market whatever you’re selling — ebooks, your writing services — all you need to do is choose an option, and get on with it.

Believe it or not, after a little acclimatization, marketing is FUN. And no, I’m definitely not kidding.

Volume also counts. In ebooks on the Kindle Store and elsewhere, you’ll sell more ebooks, the more you have to sell.

As Liliana said in her message: “Multiple titles propel sales of all your books. I’ve got 15 titles up now, and I get emails and messages pretty often now from people who’ve read all of my books. Give them something to read if they like your style.”

If you’re a blogger, blog more. Whatever you’re doing, MORE is also a good marketing strategy.

In general, MORE is good for whatever you’re writing

As 2011 winds to a close, think in terms of MORE for 2012. Do more. Interact more.

Stop worrying. Instead of nervously worrying about whatever you’re currently writing, just write more, and promote more.

Here’s what’s important. You can’t fail at your writing, if you never stop writing. So worry is always pointless.

When you write more, you’ll stop thinking about yourself so much too. Then you can sell your heart out, because you believe in yourself.

Celebrate. It’s the Merry Christmas Treasure Bundle!
