I’ve been a generalist writer most of my career. Yes, I’ve developed expertise in several areas, but I enjoy writing about many different topics.

Big tip: your inexperience in a topic benefits readers — and yes, I know that that’s hard to believe. Experts tend to be horrible writers. As a novice in an area, you’re much more likely to be able to write well about a topic than an expert, who lost beginner’s mind years ago.

You can write about anything at all, as long as you take the time to become conversant in the topic. If you love learning, exploring a topic won’t be a hardship. As I mentioned in the article however, do make sure that you’re paid for your research time.
