If You Really Want To Make Money Writing

Do you really want to make money writing?

I get lots of “how can I make money?” questions. Many more than you’d think, considering the amount of information I give you on this blog, and in the ezine, completely free, on exactly how you can make money.

Here’s the thing.

The writers who ask this question are always trying to over-complicate things.

For example, a writer, let’s call him Bob (if your name’s Bob, I do NOT mean you, this Bob is a complete figment of my imagination, inspired by hundreds of writers.)

Bob’s created a blog. It’s a great blog, looks great, and has ten posts about something or other. Blob’s blog even has a privacy page, an “about” page, and a contact page.

Wonderful… BUT…

Yes, there’s a “but”, and it’s this.

There’s no way for Bob to make money from this blog. Bob isn’t selling anything, as far as I can see, not even his writing services. So what’s the point of the blog? Why has Bob spent a dozen hours on it?

Bob tells me that he thought he needed a blog, so he created one. Unfortunately, he forgot to decide what he wants the blog to do, so the blog does… nothing.

Before you take any other steps, your decision about what you’re selling comes first. If you want to make money online, you MUST sell something. Creating a blog, or taking any other action is pointless, until you know what you’re selling.

That’s the FIRST step if you want to make money writing: decide what you’ll give people in exchange for their hard-earned money.

Work out what people want, and give it to them

People want what they want. Luckily for writers, there are millions of potential buyers for our services.

If you’re not sure what people want, please go and haunt the outsourcing sites. People will tell you what they want. All you need to do is give it to them.

There’s nothing else you need to do, other than to give people what they want. Then you’ll make money from your writing.
