Ereader Excitement: What Does Amazon’s New Tablet Mean For Writers?

It looks as if Amazon’s new Kindle tablet is more than smoke, it’s real.

And if this article, Amazon’s Kindle Tablet Is Very Real. I’ve Seen It, Played With It. | TechCrunch, is accurate, it has huge implications for writers:

“… the key for Amazon is just how deeply integrated all of their services are. Amazon’s content store is always just one click away. The book reader is a Kindle app (which looks similar to how it does on Android and iOS now). The music player is Amazon’s Cloud Player. The movie player is Amazon’s Instant Video player. The app store is Amazon’s Android Appstore.”

Some of the implications I can see:

* Instant access for readers to Amazon’s content. One-click purchases, which means more impulse buys — more readers for your ebooks;

* More readers in general. Ebooks are realizing their potential — those readers want content, and writers will supply it. YOU can supply it, if you recognize the opportunities;

* Traditional publishers will be looking for authors;

* New publishers will be looking for authors;

* Businesses will be hiring writers so that they can use the Kindle Store as promotional opportunities…

The opportunities for writers are nothing short of amazing. Frankly, my head hurts… :-)

Millions of people will be buying this new gadget, and some of those millions are YOUR readers.

Ebooks offer you multiple income streams, as I said on this page:

Multiple income streams: write it once, and sell it forever

Here’s what I love about writing ebooks: you write them once, and they keep on selling forever.

I know several writers who’ve taken to the Kindle platform like the proverbial ducks to water. One writer friend turns out a new Kindle ebook every month, like clockwork. The last time we spoke, she had 11 ebooks selling — and her income is rising month by month.

Another writer friend mixes writing her own ebooks, with writing ebooks for others. Currently she’s been commissioned to write a biography, and a family history, for the same client. She’s finding it huge fun, and she’s making more money than she’s ever made.

The benefit of writing and selling ebooks is that once written, they can keep on selling forever.

Are you excited?

I am. Please share your thoughts in the comments.
