Content Farms From The Horse’s Mouth

If you’ve been reading my blogs and ezine for a while, you know I’m not against the concept of content farms.

You also know that I advise you not to stay in those dismal swamps and wastelands too long… Content farms destroy your creativity and teach you bad habits.

I coach writers, and I’ve coached too many writers who’ve picked up bad habits from writing for content farms. It’s difficult to free these writers from the limitations they’ve learned.

But, praise the Lord and pass the ammunition, Google’s Panda update tanked the content farms. Only temporarily, however.

I’m not a fool; I know that the content farms will rise again in some form or other. Where there’s money to be made, smarties will ALWAYS make money on the back of writers.

I’m not au fait on content farms, I only know what I hear from other writers, so I enjoyed reading this article A Few Lessons I Learned About Online Writers Down on the Content Farm – Search Engine Watch (#SEW) on content farms.

For what it’s worth, I think I’m an elitist:

“The Elitists. I didn’t meet many of these down on the farm and the ones I knew prior to that thought I was a sell-out for aiding in the dilution of writing as a serious profession (a thought that has often crossed my mind since). ”

If you’re writing for content farms…

Please realize that what you’re doing is not writing. It’s typing.

There’s a world of writing beyond the content farms, and that world will welcome you with open arms. Realize that that world exists. Pick yourself up, dust yourself down, step into that new world, and don’t look back at ghetto writing.

Your ticket to freedom is knowledge.

Learn how to write. It takes time, but if you’re meant to be a writer, you already know that, and the learning will be a joy.

Please realize that you will NEVER as long as you breathe, learn everything that you need to know about writing. That’s a good thing. There’s always more to learn.

I leap out of bed each morning because I love writing and learning. At various times in my life, I’ve given up writing. That rarely lasted long. The longest time I’ve “given up” was around a month.

I soon learned that while writing as a business and lifestyle has its challenges, I’m happy when I write. I’m not happy when I don’t write. Indeed, I’m plain miserable.

My deepest wish for you is that you discover the joy of writing too — and you won’t find it on the content farms.
