Not So Dumb: Writing “For Dummies” Books

Dummies

The “For Dummies” books have hit their 20-year anniversary. The series started way back in 1991 with DOS for Dummies – I’ve still got my copy somewhere. Great memories. :-)

Everyone knows the Dummies brand, and the books often come with extras.

An Anniversary For Dummies reports:

“These days, the Dummies franchise is estimated to bring in approximately $100 million to Wiley annually. One of the most recent successful Dummies licensing programs is musical instruments. Acoustic Guitar Starter Pack for Dummies comes with a Kona steel-string acoustic guitar, a book, an audio CD, a ‘gig bag,’ a digital tuner, and three picks. “
