The New York Times and Google have been named as the top online publishers by MediaPost, a leading online resource in the media, marketing and advertising industry.

The report, published in June 2010, is based on various factors including the quality of the content on the sites as well as innovation and importance. They also factored in traffic information to a certain extent.

While the list is subjective, it presents a valuable resource for freelance writers who aren’t sure about the key role players in the industry. Even though I wasn't particularly good at writing essays when I was at school, I have been writing for most of my life. My father was a newspaper editor and I practically grew up in the newsroom. It wasn't that he wanted to initiate me to the way of life, but rather that we enjoyed each other's company.
