New writers are self-conscious. They view everything through the filter of “me”. This is not a good thing for a writer.
Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do about this — you just need to continue to write until your self-consciousness evaporates, which it will, in time.
Because new writers are self-conscious, they worry about self-promotion, especially on their own blogs, for some peculiar reason.
Relax.
As gapingvoid’s thoughts on blogging, 2010 | gapingvoid says:
“It’s OK to sell something on your blog. We’ve all got a living to make. Besides that, your blog is your own personal property. If people don’t like your content- whether it’s selling something or not- there’s no law saying they have to read it. They can go somewhere else. When people complain about my own blog’s long-running commercial agenda, I just think, ‘Dude, you’re about a decade too late. That ship sailed A LONG time ago.’ Besides, I LIKE selling stuff via the blog. Sure beats making cold-calls.”
It’s fine to use your blog for self-promotion — or for anything you like.
So promote away. When you do, you’ll find, to your immense annoyance, that no-one cares. All that worrying for nothing.
