Blogging for writers tips: write for your audience

Blogging is fun, blogging is entertaining, and blogging can be profitable — as long as you remember your audience.

If you’re an experienced writer, you do this automatically. You consider your audience and what you want them to do (or stop doing), and create a mental or physical list of what you’ll cover on a particular blog.

For example, let’s say that you’ve decided that you want to create a blog for the multitude of people who want to lose weight. That’s a HUGE audience, and far too large. There’s no way to make an impact and make money for years. There are thousands of established sites in that topic, so without spending (literally) millions of dollars, it would be impossible for you to get consistent traffic.

The answer? You segment the audience to a niche. You decide that your new weight loss blog will be for moms who want to lose weight in the months after baby is born.

I just typed “weight loss for new moms” into Google, and there are millions of results.

Your next step would be to read the top-ranking blogs, and get your “new moms” niche segmented down even further. You may consider that your niche will be new moms who must lose weight after baby is born because they need to return to work, or have a job which requires them to look great, or are on a tight budget… or whatever.

For a wildly successful blog, always consider your audience with every post that you write. When you do that, you’ll attract readers effortlessly, and will achieve your goals.
