Want to develop a great freelance writing career? It’s easier than you think. However, it’s essential that you base your career on a solid foundation, so that you can complete projects on time, as well as attract a constant stream of new clients.

You can build this foundation in only three days. If you take the time to do this, you WILL sell your writing, because you’ll know what you’re doing.

Let’s get started.

Day One: Prepare for Launch With Your What, Why, When, How, Where and Who Plan

A great freelance writing career starts with a little plan. You can base your plan on Rudyard Kipling’s “Six Honest Serving Men: Their names are What and Why and When And How and Where and Who”.

Just answer the “What, Why, When, How, Where and Who” questions. For example, for “what” make a list of what you intend to write. Perhaps you want to write Web articles, magazine articles, brochures, ebooks. (If you’re not sure about any of the answers, just guess.)

Your “where” and “who” answers will tell you where you intend to market your writing, and to whom. You could decide to market your writing to local businesses, or on classifieds sites — make a list of places. As for to whom you’ll market, this depends on your writing experience to date, and on your contacts. (If you have contacts, use them.)

You brain loves closure. So once you’ve asked yourself these questions, it will gather ideas which will provide more answers for you as you go about your life.

Once you’ve answered the questions, summarize. In 200 words, write a summary of your plan. Then create some tasks, and add them to your daily schedule, starting the day after tomorrow.

Day Two: Collect Your Stuff So You Can Strut It

Day Two is sample day. Look through all the writing you’ve done, and collect some samples. Your clients will want to see what your writing style is like.

Also, write a brief profile about your yourself and your writing experience; keep it short, between 100 and 200 words is fine.

Day Three: Blast off! Up and Away — Put Your Plan Into Action

Today’s the day you start putting your plan into action.

I’m sure that in the past 48 hours since you started asking yourself questions, you’ve collected some great ideas, but now’s the time to ACT.

Feel that you’re just not ready? That’s fine — act anyway.

Act, and keep on acting, and before you know it, you’ll have a thriving freelance writing career.
