Choose a Business Model for Your Writing

In next week’s Fab Freelance Writing Ezine, we discuss business models for writing.

Here’s an excerpt from the Editorial:

The right business model FOR YOU can mean the difference between making three times what you can make in any day job within 12 months of starting full time freelancing, and being a hobbyist writer.

What’s a “business model”?
As the name suggests, a business model is simply how you choose to make money as a writer.

Viable business models include:

* Writing and selling articles for Web and for print

* Writing and selling ebooks

* Copywriting for businesses

* Blogging as a pro blogger

* Using your writing skills to sell affiliate products

* Selling a mix of writing services (writing articles, blogging, writing ebooks for pay etc.)

There’s also my personal favorite:

* A “mixed” business model where you mix and match, combining several business models into a high-powered, high income strategy which works for you. (This is the model we teach to SYWON subscribers.)

Your business model should be motivating: it should get you out of bed in the morning. If you can fall in love with your business model, you’ve got it made. You’ll make money, and your “work” will be all play. :-)

One Response to Choose a Business Model for Your Writing

  1. Mark McClure says:

    Angela’s hybrid model taught through her SYWON course has what I term, “multiple points of interest” :-)

    I’m a 1/4 way through it and appreciate the variety of approaches that go way beyond writing articles for hire (which in itself is a very immediate and profitable writing model – for when cash flow is king or queen.)

    Put it this way – the accountability inherent in the weekly course modules, plus the e-access to Angela’s knowledge and experience is a great way of sampling what may fit in my business plan.
    And I earned back my investment in this course by about week 10 (am a slow learner haha!)

    Shucks – is this post turning into a testimonial? Maybe; but it’s also my honest feedback to the info provided so far.
