Do you plan your writing? In this post, on marketing your writing, I outlined a simple plan that a writer could follow to promote a specific service — providing PLR articles.
I suggested that:
… you map out a campaign, which will take one month. Your campaign will include:
* Two press releases
* 15 articles posted on article directories, as well as to your own site
* three Squidoo lenses, linking back to your sales page
* 30 comments on business blogs linking to your sales page
* five guest posts on blogs, linking back to your sales page
Now you’ve created the campaign, it’s time to create tasks for each and every item in your campaign. Insert each task into your diary program, or paper diary.
Off you go — put your plain into action.
Apparently that post struck a real chord with many writers, and over the past few days I’v received messages saying:
“It works, I’ve got two new clients…” and
“I just started on the plan and I’ve made four sales…”
“… I just signed a contract to write two ebooks…”
Yes, marketing WORKS.
It works for Pizza Hut, Microsoft… and you.
Planning gives you confidence
Here’s the big benefit of planning: confidence. Once you’ve created several marketing plans and have put them into action, you will know, without a shadow of a doubt, that you can take your freelance writing career in any direction you choose.
As you may know, if you’ve been reading my writing, I’m big on self-created acronyms. I shared DDT (Do, Don’t Think) with you in Fab Freelance Writing Ezine a couple of issues back.
Here’s an acronym I use to remind myself of how writing works and marketing: CAP — Create And Promote.
If you remember CAP, you’ll become a six-figure writer, and you’ll stare in blank disbelief at any writer who says that writing is difficult or that they can’t get writing jobs.
As long as you remember to WRITE and MARKET, your writing career will blossom beyond your dreams.
