Do you need to know HTML to write for the Web?
No, but it helps. You’ll often need to add H1 tags, or links, quickly, and it helps when you know how to do that.
More importantly, as a Web writer, you’ll want to add title tags and page descriptions to pages which are already online — adding these helps the page get some “free” advertising from the search engines. Many FTP programs have built-in editors, which quickly let you add these items.
You’ll find many tools online which will help you. I use RapidWeaver for example, as my page editor, Taco HTML as my HTML editor, and MarsEdit to write blog posts quickly. (All Mac programs, the PC has many similar tools.)
