However, many writers get in their own way.

“… many begin an Internet business with existing hindrances that plague their ability to perform – things like mortgages, full time jobs, families to support, ingrained self defeating belief systems, unrealistic expectations, poor work habits, an inability to let go of control or hire help when required, inferiority complexes, low self esteem or all manner of roadblocks can get in the way.”

You can make an income online that would make your worst enemies gnash their teeth with rage, and it’s possible that YOU are the only thing that’s standing in the way of that happening.

So how do you get out of your own way?

Get a PLAN, and follow it

Make a plan – any plan.

A few weeks ago I got the giggles on a forum when I read a post from a newbie who was struggling with writing a simple business plan. His idea was to create a product (like an ebook) and sell it, but he couldn’t figure out how many copies he would sell, how long it would take him to sell them, how much he should spend on advertising, and on and on.

I posted something to the effect of “Just guess. There’s a reason it’s called a plan.”

So just create a plan that you think might work, and create some tasks to get you moving toward your goals.

For example, let’s say that you wanted to write an ebook which would sell 1000 copies over six months. You’d be selling the ebook at $37, so you’d make $37,000 in that six months. You plan to write the ebook in a month, then take another month to set up a Web site, and a week to set up promotions.

The above “plan” is the kind of thing you’d write on an index card, and it’s all you need.

So with your plan all done, start entering tasks into your daily calendar:

* Decide on topic for ebook

* Create title and outline

* Learn how to use an image editing program (or hire a graphic designer) to create the artwork

* (Daily) Write three pages of ebook

Etc.

There’s only one thing which can go wrong when you create a plan like the one above. (BTW this plan is perfectly feasible – it will work.)

Know what can go wrong?

YOU. You get in your own way, by thinking you need to know everything about writing and selling ebooks before you start, or your best friend tells you that “no one makes money online”, or you start worrying that no one will buy your ebook…

Here’s a tip: to get out of your own way, all you need to do is MOVE. ACT.
