Make Money Writing – How to Get Started

Want to make money from your writing? You can get started today, by following the steps I outline in this article.

1. What Can You Write and Sell?

Start by looking at the writing you’ve done in the past to see whether you can turn these skills to profit.

If you’ve done writing tasks at work – perhaps you’ve written reports and marketing materials – you can definitely make money from those skills. On the other hand, if you’re starting from scratch, that’s a good thing: you don’t need to unlearn any bad writing habits.

Either way, the easiest way to make money writing is to start out by writing Web articles. Many sites buy article content in huge quantities. Although you won’t get rich by writing articles, it’s a great way to build your writing skills, and to become familiar with working with clients.

You’ll also get known, which is half the battle. Once you’re known, people will approach you, you won’t have to hunt for writing jobs.

Web articles tend to be short, in the 500 to 800 word range. Some articles for blogs can be very short, at just 100 to 300 words.

Write three or four articles on any topic you please: dogs, health, technology – just choose a topic, and write some articles. These articles act as your writing samples. They show buyers what you can do.

Big tip: please do not omit writing your sample articles. Buyers must know that you can write effectively and think logically.

2. Find Some Buyers

Your next step is to find some buyers: people who want to buy articles. You’ll find buyers on outsourcing sites, as well as on forums. At this stage, just get some commissions – don’t concern yourself with the fees you charge.

Your aim is to get commissions, and get testimonials from the people who hire you. You can even say to buyers: “I’m writing these articles for you at this rate in return for an honest testimonial which I can use to promote my writing services.”

3. Write!

Once you have a commission, write. Complete the writing job as quickly as you can, and go on to the next. Remember to get the testimonial from the buyer! This is essential. When you’re an unknown quantity, the more testimonials you can get, the better.

As you complete projects, and your skills improve, feel free to raise your rates. You deserve it. There’s no limit to the money you can make by writing – just get started.
