Are you blogging, or publishing?

I know many writers balk at blogging. Nine times out of ten, this is because they’re hung up on the term “blog” and can’t get their head around the concept.

Here are words to live by. SYNTAGMA » Blogging is boring — get over it!. Yes, it is, because:

“In the end, it’s what you publish, not how you published it that matters.”

Blogging is instant publishing. That’s all it is. It’s a way of getting your words to potentially MILLIONS of readers, instantly, almost as fast as you can type.

Blogging is essential for freelance writers, because it stops you wasting time.

If you’re still sending out magazine queries, stop it. Blog instead. If your ideas have merit, magazine editors will approach you and give you commissions.

If you’re writing a book, blog about it. Agents and editors will approach you, if they’re interested. This beats shopping around a book proposal for a year or three.

If you’re selling your writing services, BLOG! Buyers will approach you, if you blog consistently, and take the time to target your audience. (My “name” blog, the Creativity Factory, gets me more writing gigs than I can handle, so I give them to other writers.)

In the 21st century, the world has changed for writers. Many people want and need your services, so you can pick and choose. Get your head around blogging, and build a real career.
