Here a question for you: what do you do before you start a blog?

Do you:

A. Create a plan

B. Research free blog hosts

C. Dream about where you’ll spend your blogging millions

D. Read others’ blogs

If you chose A, pat yourself on the back, because it’s the right answer.

This week I’ve been chatting with a couple of writers who started their blogs several months ago. While both blogs look great, and are well written, they’re hopelessly crippled, and my advice was to let them go and start over.

Why?

Because the blogs lacked a money making focus. Now, I’m not saying that every blog needs to be focused on making money, far from it. If you want to create a blog about the mating habits of Amazonian parrots because that’s your passion, more power to you.

But if you’ve created a blog to make money, and it isn’t, and there’s no possible way it will ever make money, then it’s best to put the poor crippled thing to sleep… Or the Internet version of euthanasia anyway - direct people who stumble across it to your new FOCUSED blog.

Want a blog? Create a PLAN first

To create a money making blog, you must plan your blog before you set it up. That’s because your best source of traffic will always be the search engines, and the search engines can only find you via your keywords.
