Copywriting Leads Tip – Remind Them You Exist

by angela.booth on June 28, 2008

You’ve started your copywriting services business, and it’s doing well. But are you getting repeat business? You will when you focus on it; here’s how.

A client hires you for a specific project, whether it’s a brochure, a newsletter or a Web site. But when he needs a copywriter three months or six months from now, chances are your client won’t remember you.

You need to remind your clients you exist. Past clients are your most precious resource as a copywriter. It’s always easier to work with someone you’ve worked with before; they know what to expect, and so do you.

Every New Client Is A New Relationship – Nurture It

Each time you get a new client, it’s the start of a relationship. That relationship needs to be nurtured, and only you can do it.

You can nurture it in various ways. One of the simplest ways is via a client newsletter.

Your newsletter doesn’t need to be a fancy production. It may be a simple email message of a few hundred words, which you send out to your customers once a week, once every couple of weeks or once a month.

Alternatively, you can send out a print newsletter, via postal mail. The choice is yours: your aim is to remind your clients who you are, and that you’re ready to work with them.

Your Newsletter Needs A Theme – It Can Be Anything You Choose

Invariably, when I suggest a newsletter to my copywriting students, they decide that the newsletter needs to be about copywriting.

Not so. Copywriting is the reason they hire you – they don’t want to do their own copywriting.

Your newsletter can have any theme you choose.

For example, one copywriting colleague lives in Tasmania, surrounded by pristine wilderness. Her newsletters are wonderful, packed with images of local scenic spots and wildlife. There’s little text. Just a caption to each photo. Her sales pitch is her logo, her email address, and a link to her Web site.

Another colleague sends out regular case studies. These case studies are interesting, and they show the benefits of working with him.

So remind your clients that you exist. A newsletter you create in less than an hour can generate repeat business for you for weeks and months to come.

Copywriting is a great home business

Developing a copywriting services business makes sense if you want to write from home.

How does $250 an hour sound to you? Copywriters are in high demand.

There’s no limitations on who can write copy. Neither age nor education is a bar: your clients don’t care.

So whether you’re a stay-at-home mom or a retiree, or just want to moonlight at your current job, copywriting is the most lucrative (and the most fun, if you love to write) occupation you can try.
